Dave Baird's '49 Studebaker Pickup

David Baird sent this picture in of his 1949 Studebaker PU. It has a cross torsion bar
suspension from a Dodge Diplomat Wagon. It has a new Chrysler 440 engine
with a 727 transmission. The rear is a Ford 9" rearend from a Lincoln
Versails. The Cab has been extended 10 1/2", the bed shortened 9 1/2", the
bed is also widened by 4 1/2" with the floor from a Ford Ranger PU. 2001
Dodge Ram truck seats in leather, full power and heated are patiently
waiting to be installed.

Plans call for a side opening hood with rounded corners, custom tail lights,
frenched headlights, V-butt windshield, etc. All work is being done by Dave in his shop.  So far Dave has about 4 years of part time work in it. He has also
built a 1947 Packard, and the running gear of a 1916 Ford model T while it
has been underway. With some luck another year (or less) will finish it.

Dave just sent in a couple more pictures of his truck for everyone to enjoy. The picture to the right shows the truck with the doors given the suicide treatment.

Dave widened the bed by 3-1/2" and shortened the length by 9-1/2" and using a Ranger bed floor for the base.

Here's the pickup after the top has had 2" removed from it. Dave tells me the bed is now assembled and pictures will be on the way soon.

Looks like Dave is moving right along with his pickup. It's on the ground and rolling. That lowered look looks great.
